about.
These are some apps I use daily where I’ve noticed areas to make their features more accessible and useful. In my point of view, improving the way users experience these apps can help them make the most of their features every day.
The suggestions here focus on conceptual improvements and user experience considerations rather than finalized UI designs.
usage.
TickTick
I use TickTick as my go-to productivity and time management app. It helps me organize my tasks, schedule events, build habits, and track my progress. I rely on its to-do lists, calendar, reminders, and the Pomodoro timer to keep my daily routine on track and stay focused.
Like most of poeple, this is my main social media app for browsing and discovering visual content like photos, videos, and stories. I often use the “Saved” feature to bookmark posts and organize them into collections so I can refer back to useful or inspiring content later.
UX Opportunity.
TickTick
No summary of time spent on recurring tasks.
Users can’t easily see if they’re over- or under-working on routines like “Work 9–5.”
Instagram Saved Feature
No search function to find saved posts quickly.
Without search, users waste time scrolling through collections.
Users forget collection names, making retrieval difficult.
This causes saved posts to be underused and less helpful.
how I’d Improve.
Here are some conceptual ideas to address the main friction points I identified:
TickTick: Sync focus sessions with planned tasks so users can track progress automatically. Add automated tracking of work hours versus scheduled hours to reduce manual calculation and help users manage overtime or undertime.
Instagram Saved Feature: Add a search function for saved posts and collections to make retrieval easier. This would encourage users to revisit and better utilize their saved content.
These are initial ideas that need further exploration and user validation before moving to design or development.
learning.
This exercise reinforced the importance of understanding user habits and pain points deeply, especially in apps used frequently but for short bursts. Small improvements in task integration and content discovery can lead to meaningful boosts in user satisfaction and engagement.
